My wife and I installed solar panels on our roof six months ago and have seen savings off our electric bill of more than 50% since making the investment.
My wife and I highly relied on the step-by-step instructions and diagrams, which were invaluable in the process. We are not the handiest people, but using the videos, guides and diagrams, we were able to build and install this system relatively easy.
One of the best things about this experience was that we did not have to go out and buy several tools for this job – it uses basic tools most people already own. We found the claims of building a solar panel for less than £98 were true as well. We made some choices to save a bit more money and constructed ours for roughly £85 each.
Our neighbor was so impressed with our setup that he plans to construct a larger setup than we did this fall and hopes to find even greater savings than we did.
Why did we decide to do this project with all the other things around the house that needed to be done?
Energy prices are very unstable – and can fluctuate greatly due to world events. Making the investment in our own clean energy assists us part in helping our environment and lowers our costs and reliance on power companies. The amount you actually save can increase even more than the 50% we save on our bills if you are willing/able to add additional panels.
If you are able to generate enough energy, your power company may even buy the power back from you. Many are required to generate a certain percentage of power from renewable resources. Strategies for acquiring that power and the percentages they actually need to generate vary by companies and states respectively.
